Honoring heroes

Wreaths Across America

RTG has partnered with this nonprofit to ensure at least 500 wreaths are laid on a veteran’s grave. Our team volunteers at the Memorial Cemetery in Fremont and the Omaha National Cemetery. Two RTG employees and veterans of U.S. military, Scott Steffensmeier (Navy) and Zach Crosby (Marines), will participate in Omaha on Saturday, December 15th.

Special Olympics: Nebraska and Fremont teams

RTG Medical has become the first corporate sponsor for Nebraska’s Special Olympics Team. Nearly 70 athletes and coaches traveled to Seattle for the National Games. Five athletes at that competition were from the Special Olympics Fremont Team. RTG’s sponsorship helped cover travel costs, uniforms, and incidentals for all athletes. Fremont athlete Wyatt Spalding spoke on behalf of both the Special Olympics Nebraska and Fremont teams on how the organization helped make an impact on his life.

Nebraska & Dodge County Humane Society

Tens of thousands of animals have come through our local humane society’s doors. RTG partners with both the Nebraska and Dodge County Humane Society. This incredible organization provides each animal with dental exams, necessary surgeries and any needed medication in hopes the animals get a second chance and become adopted. RTG’s partnership with NHS included donations of two large, washable dog or cat houses filled with medical supplies along with a donation check from RTG employees. In Fremont, the Dodge County Humane Society helps thousands of stray animals from the Fremont and surrounding area throughout the year.

Folds of Honor 2018

Folds of Honor

RTG Medical’s newest community partner, Folds of Honor, provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of fallen and disabled service-members. RTG is driven to support their mission: “Honor Their Sacrifice. Educate Their Legacy.” In 2019, RTG employees will provide more than $14,000 in scholarships.

All of these organizations truly care about the communities they serve and RTG Medical is proud to play a part in the difference these nonprofits make. Stay tuned for updates throughout 2019 on how RTG is making a difference in the Omaha and Fremont communities!

How RTG Employees Have Given Back in 2018… So Far.

It’s been a fun and busy year at RTG Medical with our 2018 community partners. The mission of our Community Partnership Program is to go beyond only making a financial impact for our nonprofits but also to interact and really get to know those we as a company are making a difference for by volunteering. Here’s what our employees have been up to this year outside the office!

In May, many of our employees and their families volunteered as official timers and awards volunteer for the Special Olympics Nebraska state track meet at Northwest High School. The rain couldn’t keep us away that day!

Track Meet Group 2

“We had a blast time-keeping during the track events, but the most fun came in all the congratulatory, high fives and hugs! There’s a quote that reads ‘A person’s most useful asset is not a head full of knowledge, but a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen and a hand willing to help others.’ Volunteering for the Special Olympics reminded not only myself but also my son that we all have something special to give to others and one of the best ways to express this is through service,” Shanah Novotny, Senior Recruiter shared.

Also this summer, we contributed to the Fremont Veterans Park initiative where local veteran groups worked together to construct the park to honor our nation’s veterans. The park has a monument dedicated to each branch of service as well as the flag of each military branch. As RTG is proudly veteran-owned, we were happy to support an incredible community project like this one.

We recently updated some computer equipment, so our gently used Dell monitors were donated to the Fremont Family YMCA. The YMCA has said the monitors will be used in their computer lab for children in the community to use, office equipment upgrades for their staff, as well as updated equipment for their brand new Aquatics Center and more.

At the beginning of June, RTG Medical employees and their families participated in the Honor & Remember 5K Run for the Fallen at Werner Park. There was a short ceremony prior to the 5K run where the father of a fallen soldier gave a moving speech on what this event meant to him.

Later that evening, RTG sponsored the Omaha Storm Chasers’ Honor and Remember Night game where 250 Gold Star families were honored. The night kicked off with Army HALO skydivers, and during the National Anthem Gold Star families stood with Honor & Remember flags for those military soldiers that had fallen. Fireworks in celebration completed the night along with a lot of fantastic memories.

Honor & Remember Night 2

At the end of June, our employees attended the Special Olympics Team Nebraska BBQ send-off where Special Olympics Nebraska athletes and their families were given a big “Good Luck!” at the National Games in Seattle.

“We absolutely love partnering with organizations like RTG Medical! It is extremely important to us that our community partners feel like they are a part of our organization, and that they have as much interaction and experiences with our athletes as possible. RTG Medical employees are so fun, so positive and so ready to help in any situation. Whether it’s hanging out with our Team Nebraska athletes at a send-off BBQ, or helping volunteer at a competition, you can tell that each employee is committed to having fun and representing their company in a positive way. We know that we have a true partner in every sense with RTG Medical. They are genuinely making an impact on our athletes lives by supporting athletes in their local community and across the state of Nebraska. We can’t thank RTG Medical enough for their support,” said Erin Stoll, Director of Individual & Major Gifts for Special Olympics Nebraska.

We can’t believe this year is already more than halfway over, but we’re looking forward to more volunteer opportunities and continue giving back to our communities! To learn more about the efforts of our Community Partnership Program, click here.

RTG Medical & Fremont Family YMCA Complete First Year of Educational Youth Swimming Program

SwimMates New Pool 1

RTG Medical and the Fremont Family YMCA are celebrating the completion of its first educational youth swimming program, SwimMates. As part of RTG’s 2018 Community Partnership Program with the Fremont Family YMCA, SwimMates teaches first graders throughout the Fremont community basic swimming skills.

In its first year, nearly 400 first-grade students graduated from the program. SwimMates was hosted in the Fremont Family YMCA’s brand new Olympic-size aquatic center.

“I really liked when they taught us how to float and when we jumped in the water to hold our breath,” one SwimMates first-grader shared.

According to research from the YMCA of the USA, on average two children die each day as a result of drowning. In an effort to make an impact on that statistic, the SwimMates program teaches first-graders in the Fremont community the importance of water safety and provides the children free swimming lessons. Students are taught in the pool and on land basic swimming skills and safety tips. Upon completion of the program, students receive a personalized certificate and large beach towel.

“Fremont is known for its great lakes and many families visit them each year. We want to make sure children in the community know what to do in the case of an emergency in the water,” said Veronica Barrientos, Marketing and Brand Ambassador at RTG Medical.

The program was mirrored after the Fremont Family YMCA’s ice skating program where all area Fremont second-graders are provided free ice skating lessons. The community has seen a huge uptick in both male and female ice skaters since the inception of the program, and our goal is to have that happen with swimming.

“We are grateful to RTG Medical and their partnership in the SwimMates program. Their support is helping us to strengthen our community by teaching a lifelong skill to hundreds of youth in our community,” said Mike Robinson, Membership & Marketing Director for the Fremont Family YMCA.

RTG Medical Celebrates 2nd Annual “Day of Thanks”

As a medium-sized, veteran and family-owned medical staffing agency, RTG Medical knows the importance of showing support for your neighbors. That is why in 2017, RTG Medical made a concerted effort toward building a community partnership program with organizations that stay true to the values of our company and employees. Continuing in 2018, RTG Medical is proudly partnering with organizations that focus on three specific areas: our veterans, adoptable animals, and supporting the youth within our community.

RTG Medical employees celebrated their 2nd annual “Day of Thanks” last Wednesday at the Alamo Drafthouse alongside the following community partners. The purpose of RTG’s Day of Thanks is to allow our employees to meet and engage with our community partners face-to-face, as well as learn exactly what their donations will go toward in 2018. RTG employees and community partners were treated to a pre-Thanksgiving turkey lunch with all of the fixings and a funny holiday movie was shown post presentations. Learn more about our 2018 Community Partners below!

Special Olympics Team Nebraska and Fremont team
Coming up in 2018, RTG Medical will be Special Olympics Nebraska’s “Team Nebraska’s” first corporate sponsor as they plan to send nearly 40 athletes to Seattle in July for the National Games.

RTG Medical will continue to be Special Olympics Fremont’s official apparel provider. With around 10 sports and nearly 100 athletes, each athlete will have a unique look to their jerseys. RTG’s partnership with the Fremont organization will allow them to use fundraised money on other necessary items, such as new equipment, travel, facility rentals, etc.

Nebraska Humane Society and Dodge County Humane Society
More than 25,000 animals come through the Nebraska Humane Society in Omaha, Nebraska each year. This incredible organization provides each animal with dental exams, necessary surgeries and any needed medication in hopes the animals get a second chance and become adopted. RTG’s partnership with the humane societies will include donations of supplies needed for the facilities and animals.

All of these organizations truly care about the communities they serve and RTG Medical is proud to play a part in the difference these nonprofits make. Stay tuned for updates on how RTG is making a difference in the Omaha and Fremont communities!
