Here at RTG Medical, we firmly believe that “people are our only asset.” And one of our most important assets is our CEO, Charlie Janssen.
Charlie Janssen and Chris Janssen were there along with Jeremy Guenther when RTG Medical was launched in 2000 as ReadyTech-Go, have endured moving to Fremont and changing names to RTG Medical, and now serve as President & CEO, Vice President, and VP of IT & Strategic Planning, respectively.
The Janssen brothers were raised in Nickerson, Nebraska, a town of only 200 people, and come from a family that Charlie says “personified hard work.” After graduating from Logan View High School, Charlie left for the Navy and served as a search and rescue swimmer aboard a guided missile frigate during the first Gulf War.
Charlie was assigned to a lead vessel in the hostile waters of occupied Kuwait, with a mission to clear minefields for the U.S.S. Wisconsin, support the ground offensive, and serve as the front line ship, risking ground fire from the Iraqis. In his words, “Those days and nights of serving alongside our nation’s finest gave me an enormous amount of pride, a sense of patriotism, and a deep belief in the American spirit.”
After leaving the Navy, where he served from 1989 to 1993, Charlie entered Wayne State College (Wayne, Nebraska) on the GI Bill. The first in his family to attend college, he graduated in 1997 and embarked on a sales career that led him to healthcare staffing, and ultimately the creation of RTG Medical.
Charlie, who is quick to point out how proud he is to be a lifelong Nebraskan, lives in Fremont with his wife, Ellen, and has three children. Throughout his years in Fremont, he’s been active in numerous veteran and community organizations.
He’s also become increasingly active in politics. Charlie served on the Fremont City Council before being elected to the Nebraska legislature. In 2008, he was elected to represent the 15th Nebraska legislative district, replacing his uncle, Ray Janssen of Nickerson. He is now serving his second term and currently sits on the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs, Intergovernmental Cooperation, and Transportation and Telecommunications committees.
And as if Charlie couldn’t get any more interesting, in February, he announced his candidacy for the 2014 gubernatorial race in Nebraska.
We’re proud to have Charlie on board (and none of us would be here if it wasn’t for him in the first place). But at the end of the day, he’s just one of the many reasons we’re all proud to work at RTG Medical.
